Do not treat “PRO” as a recovery quality score. A paid edition authorizes more recovery and features; it does not change whether the original bytes survived. If a critical file cannot be previewed completely, identify why before purchasing solely for that file. System Requirements and Windows 10 in 2026
The official Windows product page listed Disk Drill 6.3 for Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit, including Windows 11 ARM, with at least 4 GB RAM and 1 GB free disk space in the published technical block. That installation space is not recovery capacity. A full byte-to-byte image can require space approximately equal to the source device’s addressable size, and recovered files require additional destination capacity.
Microsoft ended general support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. An application continuing to run on Windows 10 does not restore Microsoft security support to that operating system. For an internet-connected recovery workstation, prefer a supported, updated operating system and a healthy device. A second partition on the source is not safe separation. A second folder is not separation. Two drive letters can belong to one physical disk. Confirm physical-device identity and capacity in the operating system and Disk Drill before proceeding. Disconnect unrelated removable drives to reduce selection errors, but retain any destination and required encryption key access.
Create a Byte-to-Byte Image When It Is Safe
Disk Drill’s Byte-to-byte Backup creates a sector-level image rather than an ordinary file backup. Its documentation describes a plain, uncompressed, unencrypted format, with .dd as the Windows default in version 6. The image preserves allocated and apparently unallocated sectors for later analysis. It is not meant to be treated as an everyday browsable backup.
Connect the stable source and a healthy destination with sufficient space. In Disk Drill, open the byte-to-byte backup tool, identify the physical source by model and capacity, choose the healthy destination, and create the image without other activity. Protect the workstation from sleep and power loss. Record the source identity, date, image path, size, and any read errors.

Recover Elsewhere and Validate the Result
Select a different physical device as the recovery destination. Keep ample free space and preserve the recovered directory structure where possible. Do not recover all results blindly if storage is limited; prioritize irreplaceable, high-value files that preview well, then work outward. Avoid renaming or editing the first recovered copy.
Validation happens after copying. Compare file size and expected metadata, open every document page, decode media from beginning to end, test archives with their integrity function, inspect database consistency on a copy, and compare known hashes if available. Remove the memory card from the camera, do not record another clip, engage write protection when available, and image the card to a healthy device. Scan the image rather than the card. Preview reconstructed video from beginning to end and test it in a suitable player or editor. Resolution, duration, frame continuity, audio synchronization, metadata, and seeking all matter. A file that shows one correct frame is not necessarily usable. Device support remains model- and format-dependent, not universal.
Online Video Repair Is a Separate Privacy Decision
Disk Drill 6.2 added access to an Online Video Repair service, and 6.3 can recommend it for damaged or unplayable results. CleverFiles describes this as sending a video file to an online service for an attempted repair. That is different from scanning sectors locally.

Do not initialize member disks, accept a NAS “repair,” create a new pool, replace multiple disks, or run a rebuild before preserving member images. Label every device and slot, record serials privately, preserve controller configuration and logs, and do not let an operating system write signatures to unknown members. A rebuild is a write-heavy availability operation, not a data-recovery scan.
Virtual disks such as VHD/VHDX or VMDK add another layer. Preserve the container, descriptor, snapshots, and parent-child chain. Scanning only a differencing disk or flattening the wrong snapshot can produce incomplete data. For business-critical arrays and unknown layouts, professional reconstruction is safer than trial-and-error assembly.
Privacy, Ownership, and Powerful Permissions
CleverFiles’ current terms say scanned and recovered files remain the user’s property and that the company cannot save, view, transfer, or store the content during local scanning and recovery. The terms note an exception for measuring the amount recovered on Windows because of its pricing model. This claim concerns the local recovery process; it does not mean no account, payment, website, support, device, or usage information is processed.
The privacy policy describes website logs, technical information, account and contact data, purchase processors, support, cookies, and service providers. Online Video Repair is a deliberate upload workflow and must be evaluated separately. If support asks for logs or samples, inspect them for file paths, names, account identifiers, serials, or private content before sharing.
On macOS, Full Disk Access permits broad reading of protected locations. Grant it only to the official app for the required task and review the permission afterward. On Windows, administrator and raw-device access are also sensitive. Use a dedicated recovery account or workstation when organizational policy requires separation.
Recover only data you own or are explicitly authorized to process. A technically recoverable file is not automatically lawful to access. In March 2026, CleverFiles announced a simplified model with an annual subscription and a Lifetime License. An old activation code may require replacement through official support. Do not assume a 2021 code unlocks 6.3, and never substitute patched files.
Subscription, Cancellation, and Refund Terms
The annual PRO plan renews for successive yearly terms unless canceled before renewal. If the purchase was processed through Paddle, CleverFiles directs users to the Paddle customer portal or the management link in the purchase email. Another sales channel can have a different portal. Keep the confirmation, renewal date, license type, order identifier, and cancellation email private.
Cancellation stops a future renewal; it does not normally refund the current paid period, and the license remains active through that period. The current terms treat delivered digital purchases as generally final, subject to mandatory consumer rights and case-by-case support review for errors or technical problems. Read the live policy before purchasing.
This is why Basic scan and full preview matter. Verify that the exact files you value are visible and appear complete, understand the plan, and check the refund and renewal rules before payment. A vague list of thousands of found items is not a sound purchase test.
Uninstall Disk Drill Without Losing Your Work
Before removal, export or record what you need: verified recovered files, image paths, scan-session files, purchase confirmation, activation information, and cancellation confirmation. Store them on healthy backup media. Do not delete a disk image merely because one recovery attempt looked successful; retain it until the owner verifies the complete result and backup.
On Windows 10 or 11, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps, the Start menu uninstall action, or Control Panel as documented by CleverFiles. Follow the official uninstaller. On macOS, use the product’s documented removal method so helper components and protection services are handled correctly, then review Full Disk Access and background items.
Uninstallation and billing are separate. Cancel an unwanted subscription through its purchase channel and keep proof. If Recovery Vault or Guaranteed Recovery was enabled, understand what happens to protection databases and preserved copies before removal. After Recovery: Build a Backup You Can Test
Create at least two verified copies of irreplaceable recovered data before repairing, formatting, returning, or disposing of the source. Adopt a 3-2-1 pattern where practical: three copies of important data, on two types of storage, with one copy offsite or offline. Test restoration. A successful backup job notification does not prove that files can be opened, keys are available, or the whole data set is present. - Do not buy solely because filenames or thumbnails appeared; preview the complete critical files.
- Do not assume uninstalling the app cancels renewal.
- Do not erase the source until verified recovery copies and tested backups exist.

Can Disk Drill guarantee recovery of a specific file?
No. Overwrite, completed TRIM, secure erase, fragmentation, missing encryption keys, and physical damage impose hard limits. Scan and preview the exact file in full before purchasing or relying on it.
Can Disk Drill recover files from an SSD after TRIM?
